Artist in Residency

Barrington Elementary Butterflies

During a week-long artist-in-residency, I worked with around 800 students at Barrington Elementary School school to create a permanent art installation that highlights the importance of pollinators and the diversity of Ohio’s butterfly species. The project involved designing and creating 35 giant butterflies, highlighting over a dozen species native to Ohio. Children first spent time learning about the diversity of butterflies, then participated in painting. Younger students painted base colors, while older classes added fine details. The final artwork was installed on a fence surrounding the school's pollinator garden, making it a beautiful and educational addition to the school and surrounding community.
