The Northern Long-eared Bat (Myotis septentrionalis) is a small, brown bat named for its noticeably long ears. It hunts insects in forest understories, catching them in flight or plucking them directly from leaves.
Diet: Moths, beetles, flies, and other small insects.
Habitat: Forests and wooded areas. During warmer months, it roosts beneath loose tree bark and in tree cavities. In winter, it hibernates in caves and mines.
Range: Parts of the United States and Canada, primarily across eastern and north-central North America.
The Northern Long-eared Bat is federally endangered in the United States, largely due to the devastating effects of white-nose syndrome. This sticker features a life-size illustration, offering a closer look at this tiny, elusive mammal and its remarkably long ears.
