Twice each year, under the cover of darkness, millions of birds take to the skies to migrate- guided by the moon, stars, and an internal compass. But the bright lights we humans rely on can disorient them, disrupting their journey and sometimes leading to death; by making small changes, like turning off outdoor lights and closing curtains at night, we can help create a brighter future for all.
I created this piece in 2024 after leaving a job I loved deeply. I hadn’t wanted to go, but I reached a point where I couldn’t stay and still respect myself. I thought of all those migrating birds- flying straight into the darkness and finding sanctuary in the stars.
I wondered if we humans, too, carry an internal compass... For when you are lost, it does also mean that you are free
