Wood Frog Art Print
The Wood Frog (Lithobates sylvaticus) is a small woodland frog with coloring that ranges from tan and reddish-brown to gray. Its most recognizable feature is a dark mask extending from each eye toward its front legs.
Diet: Adults eat insects, spiders, beetles, slugs, snails, and other small invertebrates. Tadpoles feed on algae and decaying organic matter, along with other tiny aquatic organisms.
Range & Habitat: Native to North America, Wood Frogs range from the northeastern United States and southern Appalachians across Canada to Alaska. They inhabit moist woodlands and forest floors, returning to shallow, often temporary pools to breed.
Interesting Fact: Wood Frogs can survive being partially frozen during winter. Their bodies produce large amounts of glucose that help protect their cells from freezing damage, allowing them to thaw and become active again when temperatures rise.
